Sudhir Choudhrie Pushed on Through Tragedy to Achieve Success
Even though he was a boy of just eight years, Sudhir Choudhrie knew what his doctor had to report meant trouble. After a standard exam for insurance purposes, Choudhrie’s doctor gave his mother the grim news that her son had a significant defect in one of his heart valves. There was no cure or surgical procedure to correct it. Young Sudhir Choudhrie already understood the meaning of tragedy. His father died suddenly when he was a small boy, leaving his mother to raise him alone.

Against these kinds of major setbacks, Sudhir Choudhrie was determined to look forward and make the best of his life. He grew up and was accepted to study at the University of Delhi in his native India. There he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics.
Post-college, Sudhir Choudhrie was eager to prove himself as more than just an excellent, book-smart student. Seemingly born with keen business instincts, he recognized a niche and demand for electronic broadcast equipment within India’s rapidly modernizing economy of the 1960s.
Choudhrie put together an import-export operation that sourced electronics in the U.K. for resale in India. The effort was a fast success. The import trade blossomed and Choudhrie established the Magnum International Trading Company in 1975. This entity would branch out to deal in a wide array of product distribution models, including trade with the former Soviet Union for agricultural implements.
A wealthy man by his 50s, fate would now catch up with Sudhir Choudhrie. His heart failed. Only a transplant could save his life. After months of agony on an organ donor waiting list, a tragic accident resulted in a heart donor literally in the last hour of Sudhir’s life. The procedure was a success, performed by the famous Dr. Mehmet Oz. More than 20 years later, Choudhrie remains a remarkable medical and business success story.
