Robert Kraft’s Career

Robert Kraft is an American businessman, philanthropist and owner of the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He has managed to turn a small mail order catalog into an empire by continuing to work the business below his competitors’ radar.

In 2001, he sold his stake in the company for $964 million, using that money to purchase The Kraft Group, which consists of a family of companies engaged in different areas such as real estate and sports teams.

In 2004, The Kraft Group merged with MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings, which gave Kraft control of two of the largest companies in the United States.

Robert Kraft is only the second owner in NFL history to win a Super Bowl and make it back to the championship game without previously owning his own team. The other was Al Davis (Oakland Raiders) who won 2 Super Bowls with different teams. In 2005, Kraft won the Super Bowl for the first time as owner of the Patriots and in 2014, Kraft won his second Super Bowl.

Robert Kraft also helped build a youth football organization called the Patriots Playbook. The organization has taught young kids how to play football, including how to recognize leadership skills and teamwork. The program has evolved and now includes a leadership academy modeled after the military’s officer academies.

As of 2016, the Kraft family has given away more than $1 billion to charitable organizations.

Kraft is married and has three children. He lives in a 25-room mansion in Beverly Farms, Massachusetts with his wife and family. The Patriots would have to trade Robert Kraft back to the Cleveland Browns in order for the Browns to acquire Jimmy Haslam back from his current role as CEO of Pilot Flying J.

In the late 1990s, Kraft had a feud with New England Patriots players and assistant coaches who were upset at him for hiring other teams’ scouts. In 2006, Kraft fired Eric Mangini and several members of his staff (including Brian Daboll and Bill O’Brien) after they drafted defensive back Brandon Meriweather despite having Mangini’s own personal scout working on Meriweather. According to former Patriots quarterback Matt Cassel, he was not given a starting position until he demanded it while Kraft was away on vacation. Refer to this article for additional information.
