Richard Liu: Having a Continuous Drive For Success in E-Commerce
It should come as no surprise that the internet has changed the way a lot is done worldwide. That includes shopping, education, and working. The internet is also why Richard Liu Qiangdong continues to be actively involved as the CEO of JD.com. Richard Liu is constantly seeking opportunities to grow the business into other regions worldwide. In one online article, Liu reflects on his own ambition and continuous drive for the success of the e-commerce industry.
Richard Liu, also known as Liu Qiangdong, has been a significant player in the e-commerce industry. After a few failed business ventures, including restaurants, he founded Jingdong Mall, and started selling computer parts in his own retail business in Beijing in 1998. However, when an epidemic began circulating around China, Liu started an online platform. This was the beginning of his e-commerce empire, JD.com.
Jd.com is primarily focused on the sale of electronic goods and is a dominant seller of electronic products in the Chinese market.
The company changed when they went public on NASDAQ in 2014. Liu Qiangdong went beyond electronics to selling a lot more. That year they also achieved a market capitalization of around $44 billion and in 2016 they started gaining international recognition and generated net revenues over $37 billion.
Qiangdong attributes some of his success to his approach to business and life. He has become an internet celebrity in China for his forward- thinking approach and his assertive personality. His presence is vital as JD.com’s board cannot form a quorum without him. JD.com has thrived and Liu has expanded his offerings and rebranded the company.
Richard Liu’s decision to move online earlier is what allowed jd.com to become one of the largest Chinese companies traded on NASDAQ. They currently have over 300 million active customers and the company continues to grow because of its solid reputation and tons of return customers. See related link for additional information.
