Margie Hauser Discusses Joining NARAS

Six years ago, the music industry veteran Margie Hauser first ventured into Seattle to meet an unknown singer nominated for two Grammys and garnered praise from famous fans like Taylor Swift. While she had no idea he was up-and-coming, it didn’t take long for her to hear what she needed to do on that trip, as she quickly signed him on the spot. Margie Hauser’s first meeting with singer-songwriter Sam Harris was a wonder, but today, it’s a bit of a history lesson for her.

“I have no clue where I’m going, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “We’ve been working hard these past six years to get this guy to where he is. He didn’t know he had been nominated for two Grammys, and it wasn’t until we signed him that he found out that you can win an award once in your life, and then the next time is never again.”

That light she’s talking about is Sam Harris, who has been nominated by NARAS (the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences) for Best New Artist and Best Male. And, on this magical night in December, he took home his first Grammy, like Margie Hauser has always thought he would one day be.

“Sam is a real veteran – it doesn’t matter how old you are – and I knew that the next thing for him was to take his music out there to the world and put it on the map,” said Hauser. “When we first signed him up as an artist, we knew this would be a long haul.

“He has amazing talent, and I am so proud of him,” she continued. “I am just very happy for Sam. It’s been a long road, and it all came together in the end. He worked incredibly hard to get here. I wanted to give him this opportunity because I know the kind of person and the kind of artist he is, but it takes a lot of hard work to get there. We’ve got to find people who believe in us before we believe in ourselves.
